1-1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1-1/3 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup maple syrup

Soak the walnuts in water to cover for 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 350. Butter and lightly flour a 9 x 13 baking pan. Beat the butter and both sugars in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, flour, salt and baking soda and mix until well blended. Drain walnuts. Add half the walnuts and all the maple syrup to the batter and stir until blended. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pans. Sprinkle the remaining walnuts over the batter and press in lightly. Bake 25-30 minutes. Let cool completely before cutting.
